Connecting Employers With Military Veterans!

Posted by: Earth Resources Technology (ERT) on Sep 18, 2024

Location:

College Park , MD

Job Description:

Are you ready to join in support of NOAA's Center for Satellite Applications and Research (STAR) to provide critical scientific support to ensure fulfillment of National Environmental Satellite, Data, and Information Service (NESDIS) Strategic Plan commitments?

Ensuring high-quality operational data and leveraging observational partnerships requires a motivated team of scientists and engineers-experts in their fields of instrument and observing system calibration and validation, radiative transfer, remote sensing, and data assimilation-to ensure that the Nation's investments in environmental satellites return environmental intelligence for impactful exploitation by the operational and research user communities. STAR's applied research and development powers the link from photons to applications, ensuring the transformation of on-orbit detector voltages into validated sensor data and Earth system products while underpinning the transitions of research into operations (R2O). Without STAR and high-performance instrument calibration and error analysis, satellite data would have limited impact to weather forecasts and societal needs. Are you ready to help ensure the success of America's weather and environmental satellite system?

The sensor science and crosscutting technology theme within STAR supports research and development for NOAA's satellite sensor payloads, ensuring data quality and preparing for future instruments. This involves developing mathematical models and algorithms to interpret satellite measurements, enhancing our understanding of Earth's systems and their impact on weather and climate. STAR facilitates the transition of satellite data and technologies from research to applications, enabling end users to make informed decisions. STAR also collects in situ observations for sensor calibration, product validation, and data fusion with satellite measurements, aiding in the development and maintenance of satellite instruments and products while mitigating risks. These efforts help develop and sustain satellite instruments and products while reducing risks.
