Position Description
ERT is looking for a highly skilled data center technician to support NOAA's environmental satellite data center in Fairmont, WV to ensure that servers and network perform optimally. In this role, your duties will include data center monitoring, corrective and preventive maintenance, data center walkthroughs, emergency maintenance response, and status reporting. You will provide back up support for our satellite antenna technician. You will also be required to support equipment and supply shipping/receiving, inventory support, and other administrative management activities of the data center and satellite systems.
To ensure success as a data center technician, you should have experience in supporting data center monitoring and ensuring the efficiency of data center systems. You should have experience in taking proactive steps to reduce the likelihood of system outages, spot potential problems before they occur, and work on a team of professionals providing multiple site data monitoring, maintenance, and logistical support. Responsibilities include: Provide primary support to non-legacy Consolidated Backup ( CBU) system operations Perform corrective and preventive maintenance, data center walkthroughs, emergency maintenance response, and status reporting Perform satellite antenna technician functions Provide backup support to antenna lead, data center engineer, and legacy system engineer Monitoring and performing preventive and corrective maintenance on servers and network equipment Inspecting network and computer cables for conformance with engineering drawings and signs of wear or installation that deviates from systems drawings and documentation Supporting wall to wall 'touch' inventory, spare parts and consumables inventory audits and spot checks Auditing engineering drawings, rack elevation diagrams, wiring diagrams and other technical documents with respect to the installed physical assets Providing written comments to documentation and drawings on variance from the existing specifications Supporting equipment shipment deliveries, unboxing, equipment inventory, storage and updating logs and inventory reports Monitoring spare parts and consumables and reporting on stock on hand compared to reorder points Monitoring and documenting data center environmental data (temperature, humidity, etc.) in operational logs Performing preventive maintenance inspections and activities including removing dust from equipment, changing/cleaning filters, and changing batteries Running hardware diagnostics and replacing failing parts Performing systems administration tasks as directed Collaborating with software and network engineering teams on cybersecurity and network efficiency Upgrading internal system components, including CPUs, memory, hard drives, and network cables Documenting processes and keeping event logs Advising on the procurement of new data center equipment Keeping track of developing trends in data center methods, technologies, and trends Required Skills 4+ years of experience as a data center technician, or similar position. CompTIA ServerPlus, CompTIA Network, or CCNP certification would be advantageous. In-depth knowledge of data center environments, servers, and network equipment Extensive experience in installing, monitoring, and maintaining data center equipment Exceptional ability to work as part of a team, provide IT support, and resolve errors Ability to keep up with advancements in data center infrastructure and technologies Proficiency in documenting network processes Oral and written communication skills Willingness to respond to network and server errors after hours Must be a US Citizen or Permanent Resident who has lived in the United States at least 3 out of the last 5 years and be able to pass a background investigation to obtain a security badge to access applicable government facilities and systems.
Education
Bachelor's in Computer Science, Information Technology, related degree or equivalent.
